Heating and Air Conditioning FAQ’s – Part 2

Q1. How do I know if my heating or air conditioning is working the way it should?

Is your system making strange noises? Does it take longer than you remember to heat and cool your home? Are all areas of the house cooling and heating evenly? Have your monthly utility expenses increased? Any of these questions you answer with a YES is a sign that a certified HVAC technician, like our experts at ServiceMark Heating, Cooling and Plumbing should be called to check things out and provide you with the answers and options your family deserves. Make that money-saving call right away to assure that the issues don’t get any worse.

Q2. Is a bigger system, a unit with a larger capacity, better?

Not at all! A larger than needed heater or air conditioner wastes energy dollars and actually reduces the comfort in your home. An over-sized system will turn on and off too often causing a drop in the overall efficiency. Air conditioning systems that run in short cycles don’t have a long enough operational cycle and will not remove the humidity from your home.

Q3. Should I close the registers and doors to rooms that I am not using?

No. Your home comfort system was designed to cool or heat a certain number of square feet and closing registers and doors decreases the air flow efficiency of the equipment. This means the system will have to work harder to cool/heat less space making it cycle more often and become less efficient. Lower efficiency equals more energy dollars spent!
