Benefits of Central Air Conditioning

Air conditioning is a must for households located in areas that heat up in the summer months, but not all air conditioning systems are created equally. Consider using a central air system to enjoy the benefits of keeping cool in warm weather without many of the negatives that come along with using a window unit.

Types of Central Air Systems

  • Air-cooled systems use a fan to blow air across a coil that contains a refrigerant.
  • Water-cooled systems cool water with a refrigerant. These systems do not require the use of outside air, so homeowners who opt for this type of central air system could potentially have it installed in the basement of a home.
  • Split systems keep the evaporator inside of the house, but the condenser and compressor are both located outside of the home.
  • Packaged systems keep all of the components of the air conditioner in the same place. This may be the lawn near the home, a basement or a roof.
  • Mini-duct (High Velocity) systems are split systems that are typically located in the attic and yard of a home. Cooled air is moved throughout the home with thin plastic tubing.

Ductless split systems are among some of the most efficient units available. They are great for additions or for the entire home. They are the quietest units on the market and one outdoor unit can handle up to 8 indoor units, thus providing the comfort needed in each room as required.

Advantages Over Conventional Systems

The ability of a central air conditioning system to cool an entire house simultaneously makes it preferable to a window unit. Window units tend to only be able to handle one room at a time, so homeowners would need to have several units running to cool down an entire home. The large amount of energy consumed by window air conditioners means that utility bills will be high due to inefficient cooling.

There are also air quality benefits to be enjoyed from central air systems that are not available with conventional systems. The filter used in a central air conditioning system can take pollutants and allergens out of the air, and some systems even come with additional features that allow the unit to remove micro allergens.

Noise Levels

The fact that a conventional air conditioning unit is placed partially inside a home through an open window means that the noise level emitting from the unit will be high. Noise from air conditioning systems can be disruptive and even decrease quality of life.

Central air conditioning systems keep the condenser on the outside of the building to keep noisy operations that are necessary to cool a home away from the building. Many central air conditioners cause no noise inside the home, so there is no need to be disturbed by excess noise in order to enjoy the cooling power of an air conditioner. Comfort of the homeowner and occupants of a home are maximized when they are able to simultaneously stay cool and enjoy quiet.

Opting for a central air conditioning system instead of a conventional system has many benefits. These systems tend to be more efficient, less noisy, increase a home’s resale value and can even improve the health of occupants of a home by filtering the air.
